Dr. Joseph W. Winslow was born 8 Mar 1820 at Barnard, Windsor Co., Vermont and died after 1900 at Enfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut. He studied medicine under Professor Gilman Kimball, of Lowell, Massachusetts; at the United States Marine Hospital, Chelsea, Massachusetts; and in the famous old Berkshire Medical College at Pittsfield, Massachusetts, now discontinued, being graduated with honors at the latter in 1845. After practicing at Enfield for fifteen years he settled at Easthampton, where he was greatly beloved for thirty and more years. A skillful surgeon and physician, he was a rare diagnostician and a sterling Christian man. He was also "intimately a part of the town's life, coming and going among the people, a help and an inspiration." During many years he was justice of the peace; county coroner for several years; and in 1877 was appointed National examiner for Berkshire County.
